The corpus is part of a research project that aims to further investigate the performance of English-Spanish sentence production skills, and the study of the interaction between spoken L2 and code-switching. Although the primary language of the participants in this study is Spanish, the research questions also concern any process of acquiring a second language, including the difficulties inherent in code-switching, and the social implications of language acquisition. Within this research project, the corpus was designed as a preparatory step to answer such questions, and to explore the pragmatic properties of the discourse of a group of students who code-switch between their L1 and L2 in the process of acquiring English.
For the purpose of transcription, the speech was transcribed with speech recognition software and then transcribed by hand. The transcribed text was then coded to focus on discourse processing, specifically on the ways in which learners processed pragmatics as part of their discourse production, which in this case, included pragmatics derived from norms and values, context, social interaction, emotions, mental states, and knowledge.
The research question of this study was to investigate the pragmatic process or processes that the participants used when they produced oral L2-English discourse. The research question was addressed by collecting and analysing data. 827ec27edc
