Results: Sixty-eight percent (68.0%) of respondents said that there was enough training on how to access HINARI and the majority of these had actually trained and had experience in use of the HINARI. There was a high awareness of HINARI but a lack of awareness of its application to their research. There was limited experience in the use of HINARI, although most reported that they did try to use it. The challenges faced by respondents were lack of password, lack of awareness of the services and a lack of formal training. However, the UI Medical Library will be hosting a workshop for the residents and students in the upcoming semester. It will be a major outreach effort to these groups and an effort to develop their knowledge base and training in the use of HINARI.
Analysis of the results of this study suggest that access to HINARI is increasing among researchers and that there is more training available for its use. However, lack of awareness of HINARI and its applications to the researcher's work remains a challenge.
In response to the need for additional support for the HINARI password distribution program, another grant from the Fogarty AIDS International Training and Research Program (AITRP) was awarded to the NIMR. The award will provide funds to the Director of the NIMR, Dr. Olufunmilola Akinsola, to provide and sustain workshops for researchers and administrators. The grant will also provide the funds to establish a password distribution service for the UI Medical Library. This will provide a mechanism for the password distribution without requiring direct contact with the researchers. 827ec27edc
