I grew up in small town Iowa and we went to the Methodist church. I did Sunday school and summer Bible camp. While I always had doubts, I didn't walk away from religion until my late teens. That's when I decided to do the research (this was long before the internet) and that led me to atheism. And to be clear, I define atheism as a non-theist; someone who doesn't believe the evidence supports a belief in a god. I also identify as a secular humanist: 'Secular humanism, or simply humanism, is a philosophy or life stance that embraces human reason, ethics, and philosophical naturalism while specifically rejecting religious dogma, supernaturalism, pseudoscience, and superstition as the basis of morality and decision making.'
