Very grateful to find this super well-designed site that provides resources for those from a variety of
spiritual paths. I've lost more than a few friends and relatives to religious cults, and spent years in one myself. That was many years ago but the cults are still going strong. I would be interested in supporting anyone who was drawn into the Saiva Siddhanta Church (based on the island of Kauai) or whose lives were effected by it's founder Robert Hansen who renamed himself Master Subramuniya, and was later "affectionately known" as Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami. Other names for their various organizations: Kauai's Hindu Monastery, Kauai Aadheenam, Hindu American Foundation, Himalayan Academy. For me, this is not a matter of 'changing belief systems' but recognizing dangerous and well-organized wrong-doing being perpetrated within the 'collective ego'.
Hello, My husband and I got sucked into this movement in late 90's. It actually broke up our marriage because I saw it for what it was and he didn't. He wanted to continue to give money, time, and devotion. The church would not take just him, they required us to both join. He became bitter as he was formerly shunned by friends in the church and said I kept him from God. Their rules for women were restrictive. The Lemurian Scrolls were just outright bizarre. Feel free to contact me and we can talk more.
