On Windows 8, 8.1, 10, and 2019, a user can choose to use a LIP or a LP instead of a localized version of Microsoft Office. A user can choose a LIP to get the localized user experience on the operating system, or to get the user assistance and help files for the language in addition to the user interface. A user can also choose to use a LP to get the localized user interface on the operating system, as well as the help files and user assistance for the language.
This means that users can choose to install LIPs on top of base language packs to enable support for a new language. However, the LIPs should always be tested and validated on a system with the base language pack installed for the new language before being released as a LIP because it is unclear what effect, if any, the LIP will have on the operating system if it is not tested with the base language pack installed. A LIP does not affect the compatibility of an operating system; compatibility is only affected when a base language is updated.
Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 (Macintosh only) had its own set of languages to choose from. In Office 2013, Microsoft extended language support to include non-Latin script languages. The Languages section of the Programs and Features dialog box in Mac OS X 10.6.6 and later shows a list of languages that can be installed along with Office 2013. The languages available in Office for Mac 2011 are: Albanian, Arabic, Belarusian, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English (Australia), English (Canada), English (India), English (Ireland), English (South Africa), English (UK), English (US), Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese. Office 2013 also added support for Persian and Turkish languages. 827ec27edc
