It isa look that has so many benefits (and no disadvantages): it makes mefeel good, it inspires me, it makes me look good, it makes me feel sexy,it makes me feel powerful, and it provides me with opportunities. It isa way of life, and I choose to be fat-positive, over, under, orbeside the fat positive movement. And, whether or not you choose to befat-positive, I hope that you choose to be a positive person instead of anegative one, and that you choose to be a part of the fat-positive movement,too.
The point of this letter isn't to talk about Elsa, her struggles, orher life. I hope it will instead offer a glimpse of the fierce independenceof fat women who live, love, and survive despite being fat, despite theabuse they receive, and despite the threats to their lives.

She talked about clothes as if it was a sportbut she rarely bought anything other than a few items for the house. I wassurprised to realize how much I looked like her. I realized I had nevermet or seen a fat woman who looked as well-dressed as this one did.
