The main city of the play is the Iron Keep, which is where you go after reaching the end of the first act. The Iron Keep starts with just a couple of citizens, but once a certain period of time has passed it will have a large population which will start expanding as the play goes on. When you reach this city it is time to take the advice of a local sage, who will give you the information to enter the Iron Keep.
In the keep there are several NPCs that you can interact with to get information, like the village elder mentioned earlier. The first object of interest is the stables, where you can find the steeds of the keep's guards. These steeds are the strongest in the game. The second object of interest is the weapons, armor and gear store. While you are allowed to set foot in the armor and weapon store, you cannot buy anything from it, but can buy consumables like potions and scrolls to heal your companions and yourself.
If you want to go north, you can either follow the recommended route: northern island, then to the Valahir. You will be presented with a lot of options in your journey towards the Valahir. For example, there is a massive snow fort where you can get good gear. Other places you can find such as a shipwreck, an abandoned palace, etc.
